Pre-K

The Agape Pre-K program is funded by the Department of Alberta Education. A diagnosis with mild/moderate in one area of development is needed.  This can be completed through an assessment from a Physician, Speech Pathologist, or other therapists. Additional funding is available for children with severe needs. There is also an option for a parent paid enrolment for a child without a diagnosis.

The first class is on Mondays and Wednesdays and the second class is Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Both classes run from 8:30-3:30 p.m. Parents will provide a lunch and 2 snacks and a water bottle for their child each day.

Philosophy

Pre-K believes that an Early Education Program for children should meet and enhance each child’s social, cognitive, emotional, physical and spiritual needs. Play is an important role in the learning process of the child so it is a major component of the program. Our focus in all activities will be the process rather than the product. We are more concerned with the exploration and experience of the task rather than the outcome. We cover all areas of development throughout the program.

Learning centers provide focus on play, some of which include house, sand, water, science, listening, books, puzzles, woodworking, etc. The centres are based around the observation of the children’s interests and abilities. Devotions, reading Christian books, praying and singing are a part of each preschool day.

Agape Learning Centre believes that an early educational program nurtures and enhances each child’s social, physical, intellectual, creative, emotional and spiritual needs. Each child, regardless of ability, have opportunities to learn, create and explore in a loving and safe
environment.

Registration
To attend, a child may be 3 (severe need) or 4 (mild/moderate) years of age by December 31st of that year and have at least one area of need.
To register for ECS each parent must complete and return to the Agape Learning Centre a completed registration form along with a mild/moderate diagnosis in one or more areas. Another requirement is Canadian Citizenship or permanent residence or a Work Visa.
There is a $50 registration fee.
Visit Transportation for more information on grants and provisions.

Kindergarten

Our Alberta Certified Teacher oversees the programs and implements individual program plans.
We use the Alberta Curriculum and the Early Learning Framework. Like a child’s development, their learning is never stagnant. As a child develops, masters new skills and demonstrate an array of interests, the curriculum focuses on these areas which are relevant and meaningful in a child’s life.
The approach is determined by Teachers following the child’s lead and flexing the curriculum to explore varied and diverse directions. The Teachers note developmental milestones and records observations, that results in planning to extend, practice and master skills and activities to enhance overall development.
Hours are 8:30- 3:30 p.m.

Philosophy
The program’s philosophy is inclusive, bias-free and based on the concept of Learning through Play and modeling. The goal of our program is to provide the necessary education, developmental activities and opportunities for each child to reach their full potential in life, physically, socially, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually. Our focus in all activities will be the process rather than the product. We are more concerned with the exploration and experience of the task rather than the outcome. Learning centers provide a focus for play, some of which include house keeping/dramatic play, sand, water, science, listening center, music, stories, books, puzzles, woodworking, etc. Purposeful play is an important way that children learn. Educators and Psychologists refer to play as the serious work of childhood.

Registration
The Kindergarten program is funded by the Department of Alberta Education. To attend, a child must be 5 yrs of age by December 31st of that year. A completed registration form, have their birth certificate and if not a Canadian citizen, you need permanent resident card or parent work visa.

Parents send a lunch and two snacks for their child daily.

What Our Families are Saying

This daycare is wonderful. Our toddler is learning so much. The teachers are very caring and extremely patient. I love that there is a designed curriculum for even the youngest children.

We’ve been with Agape for 6 years now and I feel like they are our extended family. These are people that truly care.
