Works in partnership with families to support children with developmental challenges.

Supports children with developmental challenges, by identifying their needs and building on their strengths and abilities. Services may include:

  • tests and treatments (e.g., audiology, speech-language pathology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy). Audiology service is offered at the Lethbridge Centre location only.
  • teaching about child development
  • family support
  • help with assistive technology (feeding, seating)

Services are provided for in home and community health sites throughout Southwest Alberta. Daycare works closely with Children’s Allied Health for therapist supports and ECS/Kindergarten have additional therapists that come in privately.

Service Providers May Include: audiologists, occupational therapists (OTs), physical therapists (PTs), social workers, speech-language pathologists (SLPs)
Eligibility: Children with developmental challenges.
Referral Needed: Physician or self-referrals accepted.

The FSCD program is based on the Family Support for Children with Disabilities Act (FSCD Act) and the FSCD Regulation. We work in partnership with eligible families of children with disabilities to help parents:

  • with supports and services to raise your child and promote their healthy development
  • encourage your child to take part in activities at home and in community
  • maintain guardianship, responsibility for decision-making and usual expenses to raise a child until they are 18 years old
  • with some of the extraordinary costs related to your child’s disability

Services are tailored to meet your family’s situation by working together with you to:

  • determine your child and family’s specific needs
  • set goals to help your child develop and participate at home, school and in the community
  • agree on services and resources to help achieve your child and family’s goals
  • regularly review your goals and needs

Family Centre, based in Lethbridge, is a non-profit organization providing a comprehensive range of services to children, youth and families in Southwestern Alberta.

We have locations on the west and north sides of Lethbridge as well as our main office. 

Our Mission: Family Centre empowers children and families through programs, resources and connections.

The vision that we are always seeking to achieve is, Healthy Children! Healthy Families! Healthy Communities!

Family Centre operates within a team model and utilizes a consensus decision-making process including parents who are considered valuable partners in Family Centre’s planning process.

LearnAlberta was designed and developed to assist kindergarten to Grade 12 teachers in Alberta locate and utilize digital learning and teaching resources produced by the Ministry of Education. The design of the site is reflective of how teachers think and work in an online environment. It is not perfect, but we are continuing to work on it in consultation with teachers in the field.

Early Childhood Coalitions Alberta are made up of parents, grandparents, educators, health care workers, librarians, community groups, service providers and more who bring together community strengths and resources within a geographic boundary or community.

In Alberta, 100 Coalitions continue to meet regularly locally, regionally and provincially both in person and virtually. Diverse membership and a democratic space fosters shared leadership amongst local community members and professionals.

They share a common vision and work collaborating to engage community and plan to respond to local needs. In 2016, coalitions each developed Community Coalition Action Plan (CCAP) unique to their community that focuses on the following four priority areas.
